Science Based Targets

At Syngene, environmental stewardship is about being responsible to the world around us. Guided by our Science-Based Targets, we are embedding decarbonization across our operations and value chain while advancing a more efficient and sustainable future.

Our SBTi-validated near-term targets include:

  • 54.6% reduction in absolute Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by FY33
  • 81.6% of suppliers (by emissions) will have science-based targets by FY28 across key Scope 3 categories.

Energy Management

Efficient energy use remains a core pillar of our sustainability strategy. We continued to focus on optimizing energy consumption, integrating renewable sources, and adopting advanced technologies that deliver both environmental and economic benefits. We remain focused on achieving our goal of sourcing 96% of our energy from renewable sources by 2028.

Water Stewardship

Water is vital to our operations, and strategic management is key to long-term sustainability. To address regional water challenges, we have adopted advanced recycling, rainwater harvesting, and on-site storage solutions to reduce dependency on external sources.

Waste Management

At Syngene’s Bengaluru campus, a dedicated 4,000 sq. ft. facility manages non-hazardous, hazardous, and biomedical waste. Hazardous waste is collected in leak-proof containers, segregated by type, and either recycled or incinerated to prevent contamination. Hyderabad campus features secure, designated zones for each waste category, with all activities conducted under standard operating procedures aligned with local regulations. In Mangaluru, hazardous waste is managed through both onsite and offsite facilities, categorized by material compatibility. Since April 2025, Syngene has transitioned from manual logbooks to an online waste declaration system, enabling real-time data entry, improving accuracy, and ensuring easy access to waste generation records.

Biodiversity

As our sustainability journey evolves, we are expanding our focus beyond resource efficiency to advance biodiversity conservation and ecosystem restoration.

Mangrove Restoration

In partnership with Biocon Foundation and other stakeholders, we launched a three-year initiative to restore 54 acres of mangrove habitat along the Netravati Riverbank in Mangaluru. The project supports biodiversity conservation, strengthens climate resilience, and aims to establish 100,000 mangrove saplings by 2028.

Community-Led Conservation

The initiative engages local students and fishing communities as Mangrove Guardians, encouraging environmental awareness and long-term stewardship of coastal ecosystems. Through training and active participation, communities play a key role in protecting and sustaining restored habitats.

World Environment Day 2025

World Environment Day was celebrated through a range of sustainability-focused initiatives, including e-waste collection drives, the Eco Treasure Hunt, and the Clean Lab-Green Lab challenge. Employee and community engagement activities promoted resource conservation, environmental awareness, and responsible practices across our locations.

Our EHS policy

Our Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) Policy reflects our strong 'Goal Zero' commitment, aiming for zero harm to people, the planet, and physical assets. Grounded in international standards like ISO 14001 and ISO 45001, the policy is actively implemented through regular risk assessments, internal audits, employee training, and multilingual awareness campaigns.
